Hartford-area golfers could hardly pick a more convenient place to live than Bloomfield. The town has two public golf courses and three private golf clubs within a ten-minute drive of the town center. All are a quick trip from our apartment complex. Here’s a rundown of these nearby courses, home to some of the best golfing in Connecticut.

An Arnold Palmer course, minutes away

Gillette Ridge Golf Club, located on the Cigna campus, touts itself as the only Arnold Palmer-designed golf course in Connecticut. It’s also reportedly the only public Palmer-designed course in the Northeast. Players on Golf Advisor say the course is the best it’s been in years. They also call it “quite attractive and very challenging.” What more could you want in a golf course, especially one so close to your Bloomfield apartment complex? If you live at Heirloom Flats, it’s just two miles away.

Nationally ranked

Wintonbury Hills Golf Course, the municipal golf course of Bloomfield, gets rave reviews from golf writers. One noted, “Every town should have a course this good.” This Pete Dye-designed course boasts a #6 ranking on Golf.com’s list of top 10 municipal golf courses. In the words of the reviewer, “Fast, sloping greens, 90 acres of ball-devouring wetlands and 125 bunkers make this par-70 a tough nut to crack at the Nutmeg State’s best value, but you’ll have fun trying.” Wintonbury Hills is 2.5 miles from Heirloom Flats.

In-town club

For a private golf club in Bloomfield, look to Tumble Brook Country Club. The club dates to 1922, when it was built on what was a 155-acre farm. Tumble Brook was expanded several times over the years and now has 27 holes, along with tennis courts, swimming, and the usual country club amenities. It’s 2.5 miles from Heirloom Flats.

Scenic setting

Wampanoag Country Club, a private course, is largely the same as when it was built in 1924. The club president described it this way at the time: “there is no more attractive vista as the evening shadows gather on Talcott Mountain.” Views to the Heublein Tower in Simsbury add to the picturesque surroundings. This Donald Ross-designed course is just 2.5 miles from Heirloom Flats in nearby West Hartford.

A long history

The area’s oldest golf club is the Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford. This 100-plus-year-old private club features multiple layouts across its 27-hole green. In recent years, the bunkers have been renovated by noted golf architect Stephen Kay. Conveniently, the club is only three miles from Heirloom Flats. You can drive there from our Bloomfield apartment complex in under 10 minutes.

And when you can’t make it to the course

While you can’t golf in your apartment, Heirloom Flats offers the next best thing. Residents’ amenities will include a state-of-the-art golf simulator. It’s the perfect way to work on your game right in your Bloomfield apartment complex.
